Shipping labels and chemical labels have very different jobs. A shipping label needs to come out fast, straight from your carrier's PDF, hundreds of times a day. A chemical label needs to be large, legible and tough enough to survive heat, solvents and handling. Toshiba's BX industrial series covers both, and every model prints PDFs directly with no drivers or label software.

The BX series runs on Toshiba's A-BRID operating platform and now spans 4-inch, 6-inch and 8-inch print widths. For most businesses the choice comes down to two models:

Shipping & logisticsBX420T · 4-inch

Carrier and courier labels, warehouse picking, carton and pallet labels.

Chemical & industrialBX820T · 8-inch

Chemical drums and containers, hazard labels, large compliance and pallet labels.

Shipping labels: Toshiba BX420T (4-inch)

Most carriers and shipping platforms already hand you a 4×6 PDF label. The BX420T prints that PDF directly, so there's no conversion step, no driver to fight with and no reformatting when the label size is slightly off. The printer scales and rotates the PDF to fit the label loaded.

104 mmMax print width 203 / 300 dpiPrint resolution 12 ipsMax print speed 600 mRibbon length

✔  Print carrier and courier PDF labels straight from your shipping system

✔  Fast enough for high-volume dispatch, at up to 12 inches per second

✔  USB, Gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and serial connectivity

✔  Long 600 m ribbons mean fewer changeovers on busy shifts

One printer instead of two

A-BRID automatically detects the printer language being sent to it and emulates the common ones:

TPCL ZPL DPL SBPL IPL PDF

Real-world example: one logistics customer was running two printers, one for PDF delivery labels and one for ZPL shipping labels. With direct PDF plus ZPL emulation, a single BX printer now handles both: lower costs, fewer errors and less hardware to manage.

Emulation also makes the BX420T a genuine drop-in replacement for ageing 4-inch printers from other brands.

Chemical labels: Toshiba BX820T (8-inch)

Chemical containers, drums, pharmaceutical shippers and returnables need large labels with room for hazard pictograms, safety statements and product data. Many must also survive exposure to heat and chemicals. That's why thermal transfer, with the right ribbon and face stock, remains the most practical print method for chemical and industrial labelling.

216.8 mmMax print width 300 dpiPrint resolution 6 ipsMax print speed Native PDFStandard, not an add-on

✔  Wide enough for large drum, container and pallet labels in a single pass

✔  Crisp 300 dpi output for small safety text and pictograms

✔  Works with synthetic face stocks and resin ribbons for chemical resistance

✔  Prints PDF labels from your ERP or compliance system without label software

Update your labels without touching your system

The built-in Print Data Converter changes label data inside the printer itself. Update text after a company or address change, swap an old barcode for a QR code, or add data for upcoming Digital Product Passport requirements, while your ERP or host system stays exactly as it is.

Direct PDF printing on both models

Send a PDF label straight to the printer and it prints, with no label software, print server or driver in between.

✔  Faster printing with almost no processing delay

✔  Fewer formatting errors and missed prints

✔  Easier integration with ERP, WMS and shipping systems that already output PDFs

✔  Automatic scaling and rotation, so an oversized or undersized PDF fits the label loaded

PDF became the standard in commercial print because it keeps fonts, images and layout intact and travels anywhere. Label printing is heading the same way, and the BX series is built for it.

Standalone apps included

Every A-BRID printer, from the 4-inch BX420T to the 8-inch BX820T, supports four embedded apps:

Auto Print
Monitors a network folder and automatically prints any PDF, CSV or TPCL file saved into it. If you can save a file, you can print it.
Copy Print
Connect a handheld scanner, scan a barcode and the printer reproduces it on a stored label design. Ideal when splitting packaging. No PC needed.
Select & Print
Plug a USB stick into the front of the printer, choose a PDF and quantity on screen, and print. True plug-and-print.
Serial ID Print
Operators scan or enter their ID and print serialised labels with built-in traceability. Ideal for harsh or mobile environments where a PC isn't practical.

Built for consistent print quality

Many printers pull the ribbon with a single front motor and rely on a spring for tension. Toshiba ribbon printers use separate front and rear motors that adjust with print speed, giving smoother ribbon flow and less wrinkling, creasing and feathering.

Both models work with standard label stock from any brand. As with any thermal transfer printer, match the ribbon to the face stock and adjust heat and speed to suit the material: wax or wax-resin for paper shipping labels, resin for synthetic chemical labels.

Fleet management your way

Businesses running multiple printers can let Toshiba manage firmware and settings remotely through its cloud service, or manage the fleet in-house with SOTI through their own IT team.
